Sean McGurk

Sean is a film writer, director who graduated from the Met Film School Filmmaking Course in 2020.

His first film Poisonous Pleasures was a satirical comedy focused on three university graduates adjusting to life in working London and their detached relationship with their Asian housemate. In his second film Emotion he wanted to hark back to the 40s Noir Age that made him fall in love with cinema. He therefore created a mystery revolving around four polarising personalities with underlying motives who clash upon their meeting at a Kensington Book Club. His most recent third film Thirty Seven was a more intimate, ambitious character study that mixes genres such as drama, romance and horror. It is told through the blurry lens of a failed filmmaker’s memory as he reflects on what his life used to be and the decisions that brought him to where he is today.

Sean has also worked on various other films in such departments as production, lighting and sound. His influences include directors such Andrei Tarkovsky, Stanley Kubrick, Alfonso CuarĂ³n and Federico Fellini while Tokyo Story, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stalker and Au Hasard Balthazar rank amongst his favourite films.

He is currently writing his fourth film.
